Confessions of a travel blogger

Photographer Rebecca Plotnick’s recipe for a perfect day in Paris is to get lost in the streets with camera in hand.

What made you choose Paris or did Paris choose you?

I booked my first trip to Paris in 2008 after losing my job. I stayed at a small hotel on the Left Bank and got lost on the streets with my camera. That trip was the start of a very long love affair with the city and the beginning of my business.

Share a secret to capturing a great cityscape shot.

Lighting is key. I shoot very early in the morning just after sunrise. The hour before sunset is pretty magical, too.

What’s your favourite wintry Paris spot?

The city is so quiet and empty during winter. There is an adorable tea room on Rue de Bretagne called Bontemps. You can escape the cold with tea and pastries.

If you could time travel into historical Paris, what year would you choose?

I wouldn’t mind jumping into “Midnight in Paris” circa 1920. It would be incredible to experience jazz at one of the Paris cafés and people-watch.

Le Marais, one of my favourite areas in Paris.
